Vision Statement

Physical Education at Wood End Park Academy

At Wood End Park Academy, we approach Physical Education (PE) seriously and professionally. We ensure the pupils have good role models to inspire them to take up sport, the lessons are engaging and fun and pupils know the importance of an active lifestyle.

The PE curriculum also embeds the Opening Mind competences: encouraging children to develop different life skills including valuing trial and error, teamwork and leadership.

We emphasise the important parts of a PE lesson: learning how to warm up, cool down and older pupils take more responsibility by setting up their own PE lessons.

At Wood End Park Academy, we recognise the role that PE has to play in promoting a long term healthy lifestyle which is both enjoyable and fulfilling. We aim to provide a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all of our pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Through our physical education culture, we make cross-curricular links, develop the health and well-being of our pupils and by doing so, directly impact improved focus and so, progress in learning including reading, writing and mathematics.

We want to provide opportunities for our pupils to become confident and physically literate in a way that supports their wellbeing. In addition to this, we aim to provide opportunities for children to compete in sport and other activities in order to build resilience and embed values such as being strategic, fairness and respect.

Our PE and sport aspires to build self-esteem, teamwork and leadership skills enabling each child to be the best they can be by:

  • Improving health and well-being
  • Providing high quality opportunities and outcomes for all
  • Encouraging community involvement
  • Promoting active participation and competition
  • Raising achievement and supporting excellence

We are constantly trying to think of ideas to improve our development in the PE department. Different diverse ways to enhance our children’s health, fitness and future is a key for Wood End Park.
