Early Years Foundation Stage

Holywell Church of England Primary School - Early Learning Goals

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), including Nursery and Reception, provides the foundations for lifelong learning. During these crucial years, children develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and independence needed for future success in school and beyond.

At our school, we use a balance of high-quality adult-led teaching and carefully planned continuous provision. Formal lessons help children develop key skills in early reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and understanding of the world. Continuous provision then allows children to apply, practise, and deepen these skills through purposeful play and exploration both indoors and outdoors.

Our learning environments are designed to spark curiosity, encourage creativity, develop social skills, and build resilience. Through this approach, children make progress across all areas of learning and work towards achieving the Early Learning Goals by the end of Reception, ensuring they are well-prepared for Year 1.
