Maths

At Wood End Park Academy, mathematics is taught through the White Rose Maths programme, which is carefully mapped to the National Curriculum to ensure full coverage of the knowledge and skills pupils need to succeed. Lessons are sequenced in small, manageable steps, enabling children to develop secure understanding and fluency in key mathematical concepts. We use a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach, allowing pupils to explore ideas using practical resources before representing and applying them independently. Alongside mastering essential number skills, pupils are challenged to deepen their understanding through reasoning, discussion and problem-solving activities, helping them develop confidence, resilience and strong mathematical thinking.

agma Maths is used alongside White Rose Maths to reinforce and extend classroom learning. The platform provides carefully sequenced practice that mirrors the curriculum, helping pupils secure key concepts through regular retrieval and independent application. Instant feedback enables misconceptions to be identified quickly, while teachers can use assessment information to tailor support and challenge, ensuring all pupils make strong progress in mathematics.
Times Table Rock Stars is used across the school to develop rapid and accurate recall of multiplication and division facts. Regular practice, challenges and competitions help pupils build fluency in times tables, reducing cognitive load and freeing up working memory for more complex mathematical reasoning and problem-solving. This supports success across the wider maths curriculum.
