Homework
Every child is expected to read every day as homework.
Within EYFS and KS1, pupils are provided with two books per week to read. A RWI book bag book matched to their phonics level and a high-quality picture book. Their RWI book bag book will only contain sounds that they have already learnt in phonics, allowing them to practice reading independently with fluency. Their picture book may not be independently decodable, but can be read by an adult to them to develop a love of reading and develop their understanding of vocabulary, story structure and comprehension skills.
Within KS2, pupils can borrow books matched to their Accelerated Reader book level from the school library. These books will be pitched appropriately so they can be independently enjoyed whilst providing the correct amount of challenge to continue to develop their reading skills.
Every child in Y2 and above is expected to practice their times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars.
Developing automaticity with times table knowledge is crucially important to support mathematical understanding. Every child from Y2 and above is provided with a TTRS login so they can practise their times tables.
- Pupils in Y2 are expected to master their x2, x5, x10 tables.
- Pupils in Y3 are expected to master their x3, x4, x6, x8 and x11 tables.
- Pupils in Y4 are expected to master all their times tables before the Multiplication Tables Check.
- Pupils in Y5 and Y6 are expected to maintain their mastery of all times tables.
Within Y5 and Y6, pupils are set additional homework to prepare them for the Y6 SATS and to prepare them for secondary school.
Homework within Y5 and Y6 can include project learning, SATS revision, arithmetic practice, comprehension quizzes, etc.
